Acclimatising to conditions in Muscat top priority now: Indian coach Igor Stimac

Image
In the search of their first win in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers, the Blue Tigers reached Muscat today (Sunday, November 17, 2019). The average temperature is expected to be around 25-degree Celsius in comparison to 10 degrees in Dushanbe where India played Afghanistan. Two back-to-back away fixtures have always been challenging that too in different climatic conditions as well as different turfs. But the team has responded well so far, and coach Stimac feels "acclimatising to Muscat conditions is our top priority right now." "We have reached Muscat today. We have had a night stay in Dubai and it helped the players get a good rest," Stimac continued, "We will have a training session in Muscat today evening to fine tune our preparation before taking on Oman. We know how tough the game will be. So we have to make sure all players stay fit and deliver maximum on 19th." The match is set to be held at the Sultan Qab

How India can qualify for the next round of World Cup qualifiers and Asian Cup finals

Image
a) To qualify for next round of Fifa World Cup qualifiers and AFC Asian Cup finals This is almost mission impossible for India after Thursday’s draw against Afghanistan left them seven points from the automatic qualifying spot and six behind second-placed Oman. The Blue Tigers play Oman next on Tuesday and it will be a must-win game for Igor Stimac’s men if they are to harbour any hopes of creating history and advancing from the preliminary round for the first time. Even if India manage to beat Oman they would need to make up three points on Oman and also have a better goal difference. India would need to then also beat Qatar at home along with registering wins over Bangladesh and Afghanistan to edge either Oman or Qatar to the qualifying places. India’s performances in the last two matches don’t inspire confidence but if their displays in the games against Oman and Qatar were anything to go by, Stimac and Co may not be done just yet. b) To make for 2023 AFC

We’re making too many mistakes: Indian Coach Igor Stimac

Indian football team coach said his players need to cut down on their errors while passing the ball when they take on Oman in the fifth game of the preliminary round of the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Seeb on Tuesday. India are winless in Group E after defeat to Oman in the reverse fixture at home that was followed by three straight draws against Qatar, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. After an impressive show in Doha against the Asian champions, The Blue Tigers have been sluggish in the two games against lesser-ranked opposition in Bangladesh and Afghanistan and have needed late goals to salvage draws in those games. India have struggled to break down teams and the Croatian wants improvements from his team ahead of the Oman clash. “We are a unit that passes the ball confidently but we have to keep in mind that we are making too many mistakes and giving away possession. We have to work further on this,” Stimac told the All India Football Federation website. The team

The official emblem of FIFA World Cup 2022 was launched

The official emblem of FIFA World Cup 2022 was launched on Tuesday evening in Doha. The emblem encapsulates the Arabian spirit and deep-rooted heritage of Qatar. Football unites everyone in Qatar irrespective of background and nationality. Myriad cultures are strung together by the passion for football. The emblem reflects the story of a nation that has risen from the ground up and is still rising. The swooping curves of the emblem represent the undulations of desert dunes and the unbroken loop depicts both the number eight – a reminder of the eight astonishing stadiums that will host matches – and the infinity symbol, reflecting the interconnected nature of the event. Qatar 2022 is touted to lure more football-frenzy Indians to taste the in-stadia experience as the distance of Qatar, compared to the previous host nations, from any part of India will be minimal. Not less than 25 per cent of entire Qatar's population hail from India and the LOC has been quite pos

"All the boys want to play with the ball and the coach wants to build up from the back" Udanta

It was in May earlier this year that Croatian Igor Stimac was appointed as the head coach of the Indian national team and since then, a striking feature of the Blue Tigers has been their style of play – with more focus on keeping the ball and building up from the back. "Everyone has seen how the coach wants us to play," expressed centre-back Sandesh Jhingan, before adding that the players are "loving" the new system. "It's not easy to implement a new possession-based style. We have to be brave and I can say that from our games against Curacao (King's Cup) to Syria (Hero Intercontinental Cup), we have improved a lot. We have the right kind of players and everyone in the team has loved the new approach," he said. The team underwent a training camp in Goa, that began on August 20, prior to their much-awaited qualifier clash against Oman. Talking about the transition in the playing style, Sandesh mentioned that they have been working on it
