Image
Super sub Jesin TK scored five as Kerala thrashed Karnataka 7-3 to move a step closer to winning their seventh Hero Santosh Trophy title in the first semi-final at the Manjeri Payyanad Stadium here in Mallapuram on Thursday. Prior to the match, Kerala coach Bino George had mentioned how he will never waver from his attacking philosophy and his team showed just that as they scored almost at will. It was a perfect display of attacking football with Jesin being the star of the night. The substitute striker showed calmness under pressure and with this display, a new star was born. Kerala's game plan was keeping hold of the ball and trying to thread the ball through the Karnataka defence. Skipper Jijo Joseph was the orchestrator in midfield as the hosts tried to go for the kill right from the whistle.   However, completely against the run of play, Karnataka took the lead. Their game plan was very simple, sit back and defend in numbers and hit the hosts on the counter.

Goals from Bykau Artsem, Andrei Salav and Hramyka Varely made the difference between the two teams. This was India’s first international match against a UEFA side since they last played Azerbaijan in 2012. Head Coach Igor Stimac made seven changes to the starting line-up which played against Bahrain in the last international friendly three days back. The Blue Tigers were also hit by injuries to Liston Colaco and Jeakson Singh, and in addition, Rahul Bheke was not available as he had flown back to join his club’s preparation for the forthcoming AFC Champions League matches. The first shot came from Roshan Singh when he received it in the opposition half but his effort went wide. Belarus had their first try in the 7th minute when they earned a free-kick outside the Indian 18-yard box. But even as Siadzko Pavel aimed at the bottom corner, goalkeeper and ca

After the defeat against Bahrain in an international friendly, Head Coach Igor Stimac stressed on players being brave enough to “take risk” when the Blue Tigers take on Belarus tomorrow (March 26, 2022). The match will kick-off at IST 9.30pm. “There will be some big changes for the Belarus game. I want to introduce a new team with fresh faces and energy which will give us more stability in the passing front,” the Head Coach averred. “Friendly games are the best opportunity to give players the chance to perform, and I believe if you don’t take risks, you will never succeed,” he added. “Belarus are a very well-known opposition to me. They are much more technical than Bahrain. They have recently played against higher ranking teams such as Belgium and Wales. They play much more defensive and counter attacking football. But I don’t see them being that much defensive against us,” Stimac highlighted. “International football is more demanding especially when we are playing higher ranked te

Following the result, India are firmly seated at the top of the table, having collected six points from two matches thanks to Nitu Linda's well-taken shot in the 63rd minute. Coach Thomas Dennerby made only one change in the starting line-up from the last game, having brought in Kajal in place of Naketa. The game kicked-off at a slow pace but the hosts came very close to opening the scoring in the 9th minute when Astam played a low ball into the six-yard box hoping for Lynda Kom to fill in the spaces, but it was eventually cleared.
